Gamma Gamma Charter

Gamma Gamma was chartered May 19, 1950 and was chartered by 12 charter members at Grambling College.

Gamma Gamma has several brothers who were instrumental of the chartering of Gamma Gamma.

  • William McGill (who was initiated Psi Chapter at Morehouse College) was enrolled at Grambling and helped form and shape the new charter members into the way of Omega.
  • Robert Bradford (Beta Sigma Spr. ’39) was the  1st Gamma Gamma Chapter Advisor. Along with Gamma Omicron who was the sponsoring Graduate Chapter, he helped lead the undergraduate brothers.
  • Earl Lester Cole Fall ’44 (Vice President of GSU) helped Gamma Gamma become 1st Divine Nine organization on Grambling’s campus. This allowed Gamma Gamma to establish on campus a week before the Kappas.

Letter to Grambling about Gamma Gamma Charter

Gamma Gamma Early Days
Gamma Gamma brothers experienced early recognition for their commitment to service, duty, and uplifting Omega. This would create the character that would form whom Gamma Gamma is and would become. The standard of excellence was set from the beginning.

  • In 1954 at the 40th Grand Conclave in Atlanta, the Gamma Gamma Chapter was presented the Award of Merit for outstanding programs. Since that time, Gamma Gamma would go on to win the Ninth District’s “Most Outstanding Undergraduate Chapter” for fourth consecutive year. (This would become a theme during future generations of Gamma Gamma.) At the same 18th annual meeting of the Ninth District held at Texas College, Gamma Gamma Chapter capped four honors, including the one previously mentioned.
  • Brother Irving Moye, Dean of Pledgees of Gamma Gamma, was unanimously elected Deputy District Representative for the Ninth District; Brother Frank Francis of Gamma Gamma was the unanimous choice of assistant District Keeper of Records and Seal; and Brother Ray D. Molo was chosen as one of two district scholars. 
  • In May 1958, Gamma Gamma won 1st place in the Delta Jabberwock for the 5th consecutive year with its presentation of a skit entitled “Ole Man River”, written & directed by Brother Robert Wilson of Baton Rouge.
  • In a graduating class of 256 students, Gamma Gamma had the honor of having three of its members ranked in the top five of those chosen as the most promising all-around graduates. Twelve campus organizations at Grambling College had Omega Men as their presidents for the year of 1955-1956. Gamma Gamma Chapter had the unique distinction of having 17 of its 32 active brothers on the Honor Roll at Grambling for the Spring Semester. 
  • Seven members the Gamma Gamma chapter were nominated for election into the 1955-56 publication of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. (Samuel James Branch, Hodges Conner, Frank Francis, Frank Wesley-Kidd, Irving A. Moye, Carl Williams, and Willie James Wright)
  • Brother Roy Dennis Molo, a 1955 graduate of Grambling College, was named the Top Graduate of his class. Brother Orlando Moss was one of the top five graduating seniors in his class. 
  • Brother J. Edward Blackwell (XI Gamma Spring 1946, Western Reserve Univ.)served as Gamma Gamma Faculty Advisor during the time in which the chapter won numerous awards & recognitions. He served as 4th District KRS, 4th District Deputy District Rep., and served on the National Achievement Week & National Scholarship Committees. Brother Blackwell was one of the organizers of the Student Government the Grambling chapter of Who’s Who’s among Students.
